Our Story & Our Compass
Our story
We are a group of families who have been living at Domaine Saint Roch since the summer of 2020, at the origin of Les Herbes Hautes. Together, we are shaping a daily life within this Ecovillage - one rooted in sharing, open-mindedness, authenticity, connection, and a deep relationship with nature.
Because we believe children should fully belong in this living ecosystem, we created an alternative educational space: Les Herbes Hautes.
Key Highlights
Les Herbes Hautes is a vibrant, living space deeply connected to its environment—where nature, biodiversity, and meaningful activities come together. From market gardening and baking to crafts and animal care, learning grows naturally from real-life experiences.
Our approach is rooted in self-directed learning: we trust every child’s natural curiosity, creativity, and ability to grow. Here, children are not just learners—they are active participants in a self-governed community, inspired by democratic schools.
We welcome children four days a week, within a home education framework (EAD – Home Education), offering a rich, flexible, and empowering learning environment.
Our compass
Les Herbes Hautes is a rich and living space where everyone can grow at their own pace, guided by their dreams and passions.
Its mission is to restore power and freedom to children, within a safe emotional and relational environment where each person can explore, discover themselves, and become the author of their own life.
What motivates us
By allowing our children to develop their power to act and to be, as well as their capacities for autonomy and self-governance, they build a strong foundation for a balanced life—along with the tools to pursue and bring their dreams to life.
We also believe that when children are fulfilled, connected to themselves and to their environment, they naturally contribute to the emergence of a healthier world.
